How many types of 'Jeev' (beings, creations) are exist ?

According to science there are five types. Those born from sweat or water are subtle being -'Jeev'. Those born from 'Inda' (eggs) are the insects and animal kingdom, and man in the human kingdom. Thus, the origin of beings, have been categorized scientifically.

In the Gitaji, Lord Krishna has explained systematically, the essential nature of each one of these being, especially those born in the human kingdom. They can be dichotomized as 'daivi' (pious, blessed souls) and 'asuri' (demonic) 'jeev'.

Who can be termed as 'daivi jeev'?

'Daivi' is a derivative from the word 'dev', which in turn is derived from 'divya'. One who has intrinsic values of a 'dev' (demi-God) i.e. divine qualities is called 'daivi jeev'. Such beings are devoted to God and have faith in Him. They have qualities like empathy, gratefulness, and magnanimity, penance, love and affection, forgiveness, peace, non-violence and other such positive qualities. They practise religion specifically to attain God. Shri Mahaprabhuji has further divided 'daivi jeevs' into two types, 'Maryada' and 'Pushti', God has stated various paths in the Vedas and other scriptures, to attain Him. The 'daivi jeev' who follows the paths expounded in these 'shastras' of his own will, is called 'Maryada Jeev'. Such a person lives according to the tenets in the 'Shastras'. There are so many people whom God blesses, himself. Regardless of that person's foibles God the eternal source of mercy, enlightens Him. Such blessed and graced by God Himself are known as 'Pushti Jeev'. Pushti means 'Krupa' or grace.

What is the nature of 'asuri' or demonic beings?

The people in this world, who are busy enjoying sensual and materialistic pleasure of life, who are possessed with anger, avarice, attachment, violence, inhumanity, deceit and other such amoral traits are 'asuri'. Even though they are sometimes indulging in religious practices, they do it with a selfish motive, without really believing in God. Fifty five percent of the people in the world belong to this type.

What type can we Vaishnav be categorized as?

Vaishnav are 'Pushti Jeev', because God has created them for the sole purpose of His Seva, so that they must do seva, Shri Mahaprabhuji was sent by God to earth, and was made to give us the Brahmasambandh for doing seva.

If Vaishnavs are 'Pushti jeev' then why are so many Vaishnavs in the world, so immersed in enjoying the material world? Why don't they do seva?

When a basketful of mangoes contains one rotten mango, the other good mangoes also become rotten. Similarly, we are surrounded by 'asuri jeevs'. We are entrapped in their wrong association. As a consequence we start imitating their false lifestyles and habits. If a good boy from a good family gets involved in a bad company, he becomes a 'gunda' (antisocial element). He forgets his own value-based upbringing. This is exactly what has happened to us. So even though we are Vaishnav pushti jeevs, we are trapped within the confines of the material pleasures. We are unable to engage ourselves in doing seva correctly.
