What are the do's and don'ts while undertaking a parikrama?

  1. There should be no gossip about worldly mundane topics. No such thoughts should enter your mind.
  2. Your mind should be flooded with thoughts of Shri Thakorji. Only dhol-pads should spring forth from your mouth.
  3. You are not on a picnic. So don't stop for snacks and refreshment on the way.
  4. There are many kunds on the way. You must stop and drink a little of its water. Then there are also many temples and baithaks. You must stop at these and do darshan and seva. When you come by a Leela spot, you must stop a while and listen to the description of the Leela that took place. Try and experience it by sitting quietly.
  5. You have to walk while doing a parikrama. So, there is no way, that you can wear any sort of footwear. But you must be barefoot. That is the way to do a regular parikrama with love and feeling, faith and correct methods.

Why do we call Bhagwan 'Shri Thakorji'?

In Vraj-bhasha, there is a word 'Thakur'. In Gujarati it is 'Thakor'. It means 'King'- 'Raja'. Our Bhagwan Shri Krishna's father Nandraiji, was the 'Thakur' of Gokul.

Shri Krishna ruled over a whole of Gokul. He was the dearest to all the 'Vrajvasis' and was accepted as 'Raja'. So the 'Vrajvasis' called him 'Thakur'. That is why we address him respectfully as 'Shri Thakorji'. He is the king of our house. We are His subjects.

Bhagwan Krishna is One. Why don't we do seva of Shri Krishna's idol or His picture? Why are there so many different idols in Hindu dharm?

In our Pushtimarg, the swarups that we do seva of, are all basically swarups of Bhagwan Shri Krishna. So, we all, vaishnavs are actually doing Shri Krishna's seva.

Then comes the point of many swarups. You yourself are one. If you have a photograph taken in your school uniform, you look like a student. If you dressed in cricketer's outfit, with cap and bat in hand, you will appear as a sportsman. An army uniform will make you look like a soldier. If you wear a 'dhoti-bandi'(vest) you will look like a Vaishnav. Hence, you are one, but you appear different in each photograph. Right?

Take a look at your album from your birth till present day. Observe carefully and you will see how different you look.

Similarly all our swarups are Shri Krishna's childhood to youth forms. Shri Balakrishnalalji, Shri Navneetpriyji, Shri Mukundraiji and Shri Ladileshji are childhood forms of Shri Krishna, crawling on his knees.

Shri Gokulnathji held Giriraj. That is the leela swarup of a 7 year old. Shri Madanmohanji during the 'rasleela' is the swarup of an eleven year old. Shri Nathji is also eleven years old.

So these swarups are all of one Shri Krishna, not different Bhagwans.

Shri Krishna has only 2 hands. Why many swarups with 4 hands?

Shri Mathuranathji, Shri Dwarkanathji, Shri Gokulnathji and Shri Kalyanraiji have 4 hands. The reason is the supernatural leelas performed by Shri Krishna. Shri Krishna, according to his will appears with 2 or 4 hands.

Sometimes He appears with eight hands and also with 1000 hands. Anything is possible for Him. Shri Ashtabhujaji in viramgam has 8 hands.

Why does Shri Mathuranathji have 4 hands?

Shri Thakorji went to steal the butter. He caught the pot with two hands. To catch the slipping 'pitamber' on his waist, he manifested two more hands. That is the swarup of Shri Mathuranathji. That is why He has four hands.

Why does Shri Dwarkanathji have 4 hands?

Shri Krishna followed Shri Radhaji quietly. With two hands he closed Shri Radhaji's eyes. Then with his other 2 hands, He played the 'Venu'(flute) and asked, 'Who am I?' This hide and seek leela's swarup is that of Shri Dwarkanathji. That is why He has 4 hands.
