Will you tell us the meaning of this mantra?

Sure. In this mantra the 'jeevatma' introduces itself. It says -

  1. I am a part (ansha) of Bhagwan Krishna.
  2. I have been separated from him for innumerable years (thousand of years).
  3. Hence I have forgotten Bhagwan Krishna completely.
  4. I have not felt the need or the thirst to seek Him and reunite with Him. Now I have come to realize that folly, I am such an embodied soul.

Then Bhagwan gives his introduction in order to acknowledge and accept the prepared 'jeevatma'. He only uses two words for himself.

  1. I am Bhagwan. I act according to my will. One who has a bond of love with me, I protect. I go and meet that devotee.
  2. I am Krishna. Krishna means one who has maximum strength. One who is the epitome and embodiment of bliss. I annihilate all the sorrows of one who I accept and take into my fold. I give that devotee every happiness.

Once the jeevatma learns about Bhagwan, he pledges in front of Him, 'Oh Krishna! My body, its ten sensory organs, this life, my mind, my husband or wife, my children, my family, my house, all my wealth, all my deeds in this life and in the lives hereafter, along with my 'atma' (soul), I surrender to you. You are a their Master. From today nothing is mine, everything is yours. I will use it in your seva for your happiness. I am your servant. Oh Krishna! I am yours.

Who can be initiated with this mantra? Who can give this mantra?

In this mantra, the 'jeevatma' pledges in front of Paramatma. One who is willing to fulfill that pledge should be initiated. In other words, after having taken the Brahma-Sambandh pledge, in order to fulfill it, it is necessary that one must do Shri Thakorji's seva. The food (samagri) that one offers Shri Thakorji in seva is the only Prasad that one will eat, is a part of the pledge. Also one should only use what can be offered to Shri Thakorji in seva, as 'prasad'. One Mahaprabhuji's descendant revered Goswami balak are entitled to give this 'diksha'- initiation.

How is religious initiation given?

Whosoever desires to take this 'diksha' should first be well-informed about the pre and post conditions of taking Brahmasambandh. Then one can go to any revered Goswami 'Balak'. According to their instruction one will have to keep a fast the day previous day. The following day, the person has to go to that particular Goswai balak's house, bathe according to His instructions. Then the person is made to sit in front of Shri Thakorji and a tulsi leaf couplet is given in the one's hand. Then one has to repeat the brahmasambandh mantra. After this Maharajshri will place the tulsi leaf at the lotus feet of Shri Thakorji and Gurudev, and then as per instruction from Gurudev Shri Thakorji's seva must be done.

To whom did Shri Mahaprabhuji give the first Brahamsambandh? When was it given?

Shri Thakorji ordained Shri Mahaprabhuji to give the Brahamsambandh mantra. The first person was a devotee called Damodardas Harsani. Shri Mahaprabhuji initiated him on shravan sud baras.

Hence Shravan sud baras is known as 'Pavitra baras'. In our Pushtimarg, that day is important to us as Guru Purnima. On that day, Vaishnavs offer pavitru and misri to their own Guru, Shri Vallabhkul, at Shri Mahaprabhuji Baithak, and to one's own Shri Thakorji at home. They express their devotion to their Guru.

SWAROOP PARICHAY

Why do we call Shri Vallabhacharyaji, 'Shri Mahaprabhuji'?

'Prabhu' has two meanings

  1. 'Swami' (master) and
  2. God. 'Maha' means great.

We are God's devotees. A devotee is a subservient devotee of God. God is a devotee's master. Hence, God is our master - 'Prabhu'. Such a lord is subordinate to Shri Vallabhacharyaji. When Shri Vallabhacharyaji accepts a devotee within his fold, He also hands him over to the lord that devotee's hand. Thus, God is attained by Guru Shri Vallabhacharyaji's grace.

Therefore, Shri Vallabhacharyaji is the Lord's master. That is why we call him Mahaprabhuji.

We are Shri Vallabacharyaji's devotees - sevaks. So he is our Lord and Master.

In this world, some are called swami- God (master- Husband). Shri Vallabhacharyaji is greater and more divine then they are. That is why we call him Shri Mahaprabhuji.

Kabir has written a 'doha'.

Guru Govind donon khade, kake lagun pai;

Balihari Gurudevki, Govind deenho batai'.

Guru and Govind (God) are standing together. Who will you offer reverence first? Kabirji says : First bow to our Guru, because he has made it possible, for us to attain the Lord. That is why our Guru, Shri Vallabhacharyaji is called 'Shri Mahaprabhuji'.
