When they ran back to where they first saw Shri Mahaprabhuji they were again confounded to see Him there also. Shri Mahaprabhuji then casually asked them, “Did you have Shri Jagannathji’s sight?” when they replied yes, Shri Mahaprabhuji added, “Now has your doubt been removed?” the boys replied. “Before, we ignorantly doubted Your Divinity, but now we know that you are Bhagwan Shri Krishna.” Shri Mahaprabhuji then asked for the golden coin. The reason why they did not offer Him the coin previously was that they thought that if He was really Purnaprusotam He would ask for it Himself. The two brothers then prayed to be made disciples. After bathing, Shri Mahaprabhuji gave them brahma sambandha. They stayed with Shri Mahaprabhuji for a few days before returning home where they related to their mother, their entire journey. Their mother questioned them, “Why did you doubt Shri Mahaprabhuji’s divinity? I told you from the beginning that He is Purnaprushotam Himself.
Because at first Jagannath and Narahari doubted Shri Mahaprabhuji’s divinity, He displayed to them, He being Purnaprushotam whereby the Path of Grace became established firmly in their hearts. Afterwards, they knew Shri Mahaprabhuji’s Path to be the Supreme way and were no longer attracted by other religions, supernatural powers or anything worldly or Vedic, immersed as they were in the sublime sentiment of Krishna Bhakti.
Once Narahari went to Jagannath Puri to have the sight of Shri Mahaprabhuji. After passing through Patna, he made camp and prepared for his Thakurji rotis and lentils. After his cooking was completed, one beautiful boy ten years old came up and put his hands out to ask for some food. Narahari, surprised, thought to himself, “Who is this boy?” After he cleared away Shri Thakurji’s offering, he put two buttered rotis and some lentils into the boy’s hand. To Narahari’s astonishment, the young boy then climbed up a tree and disappeared.
On the following day, after he had made camp and completed his Thakurji’s offerings that same boy came down from a tree and stretched out his hands and asked for some food. At that time Narahari thought to himself, “Perhaps this is some sort of trickery.” Concluding thus, he did not give the boy any food that day and after Shri Thakurji had taken His meals, Narahari alone took the Prasada. The boy then climbed up the tree and disappeared.
The Boy (Bhagwan) then went to Jagannath Joshi's house and said to him, Yesterday Narahari gave Me two rotis and some lentils, but today he did not give Me anything." Jagannath Joshi then wrote down the day it was, thinking that he would ask his elder brother when he returned from Jagannath Puri what had happened on that day. When Narahari returned home, Jagannath asked him all about
Shri Mahaprabhuji. After Narahari related that Shri Mahaprabhuji was weIl and ever victorious Jagannath asked him, "Who was that boy who came to you asking for food?" Narahari explained, "One day a beautiful boy of ten years came up with open hands and asked for some food. On that day I gave him two rotis and some lentils. He then climbed up a tree and disappeared.
On the folIowing day, when the same boy came up to me, I thought that perhaps it was some sort of trickery, and therefore decided not to give him anything. I also considered that if he was really the Bhagwan, then how could I give Him left-over foodstuffs ?" Jagannath then said, "You have done a terrible thing. Bhagwan Shri Krishna has come to you asking for food and you did not receive Him. When we first went to Jagannath Puri in order to have the sight of Shri Mahaprabhuji, we hid the golden coin which our mother had given to us to offer to Shri Mahaprabhuji with the anti¬cipation that if He was really the Purnaprusotam then He would demand the coins from us without our even saying anything.
Only after He gave us His sight at Shri Jagannathji's Temple as well as in His residence
at one and the same time and then asked us for the golden coin did our doubts become
removed. Now that you have become the disciple of Shri Mahaprabhuji, who is Shri
Krishna Himself, how can any type of trickery come close to his true disciple. You reasoned
Wrongly when you concluded that it was some sort of magic. Actually, Bhagwan came to us, because we have taken Shri Mahapra¬bhuji's shelter simply to ask us for some food."
