EKADASHI VRAT

An important Vrat for all Vedic Sanathan Dharma to purify soul..

Achariyacharan Shri Vallabhachariya Mahaprabhujis
views about the importance of Ekadashi Vrat

Achariyacharan Shri Mahaprabhuji has emphasised on keeping all Ekadashi Vrats and to keep such Ekadashi Vrat on four Jayantis (birthdays) namely:-

  1. Shri Krishna Jamnastami
  2. Shri Ram Ramnomi
  3. Shri Narshi Jyanti
  4. Shri Vaman Jyanti

Once Achariyacharan Shri Mahaprabhuji, during Prithvi Parikrama went to Shri Jagat-nath puri. On one of the Ekadashi day, the pandits of Shri Jagat-nathji temple gave Shri Mahaprabhuji, Shakri Mahaprashad (Sanctified Rice), being Ekadashi (rice is forbidden to be eaten on that day). Therefore, Shri Gurudev Vallabh stood at that same spot, where he was offered sanctified rice as Prasad.

Shri Vallabhachariyaji

(Shri Vallabh knew as today is Ekadashi day and he could not eat rice and at the same time he will not disrespect the Prasad of Shri Jagat-nathji), so for the whole day and night until next morning, He had been praying and praising the glory of Mahaprashad on that very spot until Duvadashi arrived next day, than He took that Mahaprashad. This shows the important of Ekadashi Vrat and significance of Mahaprashad.

Different ways of keeping Ekadashi Vrats

Fruits-Falhar

Ekadashi Vrat can be observed in five different ways:-

  1. Nir-jalla (complete fasting, not even taking water),
  2. Upvas (fasting but water is allowed)
  3. Falhar (once allowing, to have milk, its products, and fruits)
  4. Nakt-Vrat (whole day fasting and only in night, once you can have Falhaar)
  5. Ek-Bukt Vrat (any time but only once, you can have Falhar)

NB: Weak, old, sick person, children and those who are not in position of keeping above Vrat can eat Falhar, Fruits, Milk, and its products but not food grains and other products that are prohibited on Ekadashi day.
