After a long wait, the month of Bhadra Vad 8th
approached and soon it was the eighth day of the waning moon. Devki and
Vasudev, fettered in chains, were sitting in their prison-room lost in endless worry. Suddenly, clouds began to thunder and lightning flashed alarmingly.
Through an open window of the prison entered a dazzling beam of light and a fascinating voice resounded, “Devki!
I am
Purnapurshotam, and as promised you in past I am here.” His
swaroop was fascinating with four hands each hand caring four
ahayud (weapons) namely Shank, Chakra, Gadha and Padhma. Devki
requested him “I need a normal child and not as Purna Purshotam”.
Purna Purshotam replied “Take me to Nand Baba,
Chief of Gokul, as soon as I become a baby. Just at the time of
my birth, a daughter is born to Nand Baba's wife. Bring the girl
in lieu of me and put her into Devki's lap.” Hearing these words of
Bhagwan Krishna; Vasudev and Devki
folded their hands and began to praise Him. This was just at midnight He appeared as baby. The baby was extremely - beautiful
and lovely beyond every imagination. It seemed as if the baby was smiling to see them. As soon as
Vasudev thought of carrying the baby to Nand Baba, who lived at
Gokul, his fetters got loose and he was freed. And when he got
ready to go, the gates got opened and all the guards were lost in deep slumber snoring heavily. So, Vasudev
came out unnoticed and advanced on the path leading to Gokul.
