In due course of time, Devki gave birth to her first son. Vasudev, as per his word, sent the information of this birth to Kans through the guards of the prison. Kans sent for Vasudev along with the baby. When Vasudev came to Kans with his son in his arms, Kans was pleased with him as he had fulfilled his promise. So, he returned the baby to him because of love for Devki. Vasudev came back to the prison happy and satisfied.

But after an hour or so, Kans reached the prison in person. He was almost mad in rage, ill-advised by his advisers; he had taken a firm decision to kill each baby born to her cousin Devki. So, he snatched the baby from her and ruthlessly struck it on a stone with the result that it was killed then and their. In like manner, Kans put five more sons of Devki to death one by one.

Out of Kans fear, Rohini, the second wife of Vasudev left Mathura and began to live in Nandaalay at Gokul.

Now Devki was again in the family way for her seventh issue. Yogmaya, with Bhagwan Shri Krishna’s order, miraculously transferred Devki’s pregnancy to Rohini in Gokul and where she gave birth to a son who was named Balram.

In course of time, Devki was to deliver her eighth child and she was extremely worried. Vasudeva consoled her saying that it was this baby who was destined to put an end to the excesses of sinful Kans.
